Hello, old panda.
A panda's best asset, as always, is their ability to control the battlefield by tossing combatants into position. A panda's damage will be okay at best. You'll never be able to compete with classes like rogue, cra, and iop that are built for dpt.
Fire/water is certainly viable, especially if you want to make a damage-focused panda. One of the big problems is picking what secondary damage types to focus on. At first it may seem like AoE is the way to go, but a panda's best damage spell is single target. At first you may think that a ranged panda is best, but because of your carry ability you're often in close quarters too. What's a panda to do?
A lot of people go tank panda instead of dpt (usually fire/earth or tri). This can be particularly helpful in higher level dungeons where positioning is paramount and the mobs can deal nail-biting amounts of damage.
I've found the panda builds on wakfubuild.fr to be particularly helpful.
Pandas are definitely useful after the change but they are a niche class. In certain circumstances they really shine. In others, not so much. If you're looking for a pickup game you'll have better luck getting party invites if you're playing a straight-up damager, tank or healer. A panda can do all three of those things but it can't do any of them as well as classes that are specialized in them.
I personally find my panda invaluable. I have three chars that are AoE focused. So, I use my high-init tank panda to setup clumps of foes for them.
MonoMenace updated his guide for the new system. Click here
Fire + Water is still viable, I'm a relatively new pandawa, but that what I use and it works for me.
Panda's primary role right now is sort of.. all-purpose support. Pandas have the tools to be decent tanks, healers, damage dealers and positioners just by what spells you pick for your deck.
Pandas can't quite do everything in a single deck, but they can do a lot. They'll never really compete with Cra as ranged DPT, Feca as Tanks, or Enis as healers, but they bring so much utility that they're always helpful, even if it's just AOE spam.
thx a lot guys as always pandawa has the best community in wakfu.
