Shadow Knight's Darkness Blood passive gives element instead of damage

I just recently bought shadow because the % damage passive looked pretty good. Unfortunately, it seems to give elemental mastery in battle instead of % damage. Was it intended to give elemental mastery because I think this will make Shadow worse than Astrub Knight who basically has the same skill set.
