  Hello friends! Interested by a bowl of fresh air, with limited cost, all at your expense? You probably heard about my island already, the Chillberg Island! A new land full of treasures and perspective for the tough guys like you!

Since I feel generous today, I’ll tell you about how things work on my ice rock. And if you stay until the end, you might even get a little discount on the taxes I set on everything you can find there. I’m sure we can agree on something, if you don’t get cold feet.
My name is Styffen Chillberg, and you’re on my island. I found it first and no one can take it away from me, Enutrof be my witness. It’s a bit like my ice kama lost in the middle of the sea. Right, Itty?

Who’s Itty you ask? It’s my drheller, a clever one: he always finds his way home.
 
But let’s get back to business here. Let me tell you how I first met my cold beauty.

It started when I just acquired the “Albatrocious” thanks to a little deal with a sea Rogue of the Smisse clan. How did I get it? That’s another story…

Little envious that I was to go over the terms of our agreement, I left with haste. The Smisse didn’t seem to agree and started chasing me. I tried to escape him by sailing through the Mist Sea, feared by all sailors. After drifting for many days without destination, I reached a more open part, with a fresh and vigorous breeze.

Afar I could see an island. White, bright, magnificent. Members of my crew whispered that we found a celestial island. Other more pessimistic ones thought we were dead for a while and were finally reaching the shore of the sailors Incarnam… The closer we got, the colder it became. We finally realized that what we first thought were clouds and sand was indeed snow and ice!
 

The most intriguing was the tower visible far away, that seemed to be standing right in the middle of the island. It was the only trace of civilization. The rest was all snow and ice as far as the eye can see. This tower would have to be our destination on the land. It was an old site, completely frozen, probably predating Ogrest Chaos. I could already picture quantities of old treasures filling our holds, and feel the kamas in my pockets.

It took us several days to reach an anchorage place. Most of the shores were only made of reefs and high ice cliffs, as if the sea once violently rose and froze. It was just impossible to land on these shores! The only place available was what we now call the Chillberg Ice Floe.

Once we finally landed, it took us even longer to prepare warm clothes and secure an area thick enough in ice to build a camp. Right where you can now find my Friss Quay.

Luckily, the holds of the “Albatrocious” were full of rum and dried snappers, enough to feed the complete crew for at least two month. But there was also a very succulent local fauna, with a skin adapted to the climate, they looked like polar Bliblis; I called them Brrrblis.

And still no autochthones to be seen. Looked like there was nobody leaving there besides these frozen snouts.

I started to realize that this island was not already recorded. I visited many harbors and tavern and heard many stories talking about crazy creatures, but never had I heard about polar Bliblis living on a frozen island, never! And surely not on the Mist Sea, not even from Jeremy Thomaniac.
 

Agreeing with myself, and as captain of the ship, I decided that it was my duty to name these lands, so I called them the Chillberg Ice Floe, and the island itself Chillberg Island.

In about two weeks, we already had built shelters and a proud shop. We were finally ready to explore. For the whole duration of our settling, my crewmen found their marks in the mists, and knew how to reach more known seas across the mist wall. I sent half of my crew to establish a shipping road to my island. Meanwhile, we set to conquer the heart of the lands.

We first followed the shores to the north, north-west. Our progression was quickly stopped by a particularly big group of Brrrblis, gathered around what seemed to be their moody leader. The only female we came across. This Brrrbley Spears as we decided to call her convinced us to turn back to the Chillberg Ice Floe.

Exploration to the north center of the island was also rather short: our progress was stopped by ice cliffs and a huge crevasse

It was so large and deep that even a Pandawa wouldn’t be able to throw anyone on the other side.

Moral was running low. A month had gone since we first set foot on the island, and still nothing to exploit. And this inaccessible tower looking down on us… But I could still feel it: something worthy was just up for grabs!

Hidden in the warmth of my jacket, my loyal but not so young drheller suddenly left the comfort of the Brrrbli skin. All Enutrofs will tell you, always follow a well-trained drheller. When I saw his wagging muzzle, I knew deep inside that he found something. My instinct didn’t let me down!

I put my loyal Itty on the ground. The crew gathered around him, eyes full of hope. At first a little hesitating, Itty started circling farther and farther. He then stopped directly in front of an ice block that looked anything but unusual. However, paw high, straight gaze and tail; there was no room for doubt: this block contained a rare mineral. I already considered him talented when it came to finding mines, but finding one that cannot even be seen, this required capacities from another world! Only Itty and uncle Chillberg could make it happen! Intrigued, we started to examine and take samples of the suspicious ice block. I put Itty back in the warmth of my jacket and focused on the new task.

Back in Friss Quay we melted the ice, filtering the water through various filtering systems to collect even the smallest particle that could hide in there. The reward came rather quickly – an impressive amount of silver mineral could be found in the filters. No surprise that they couldn’t be seen through the shiny ice!
 

We tested them and the results were fascinating! Sweet and salty in the same time, with a fruity and woody savor, the mineral had incredible flavors! When put in contact with heat, it could mirror almost 10 times the energy it received. Rubbed on the skin, if made it soft and clean, and gave you comfortable warmth. The properties were as numerous as diversified, even with the smallest amount of mineral, and I couldn’t list them all! Oh Itty, how I bless the day I tamed you with Twixler Candies and made you my pet!

This rare and precious mineral, undoubtedly source of my future fortune, I called it Chillbergium. Only much later did I discover that it was already discovered centuries before and called Taroudium. But that’s another story.

After much analysis around the camp, we discovered that most of the ice field was actually full of this mineral. This explained why the water made out of the snow and ice that we were drinking and using for cooking could heat so fast, and why Brrrbli meat tasted so good. A test with more filtered water revealed that the meat wasn’t that good after all, and particularly fat and fibrous.

If the surface was full of Chillbergium, the subsoil probably hid kilometers of veins! We had to dig.

The first mine was established north, north-east, close to where Itty first discovered the mineral. Extraction weren’t as profitable as I had hoped, and I asked my crew to stop when we reached a layer of ice so thin that we could see the water of the Mist Sea through.
 

I decided to let Itty show us the way to the next deposit. A second mine was created north-east, and what a mine it was! Right upon digging the first meters did we already found nuggets, which quickly became fragments!

The crew was still limited, so I waited for the return of the Albatrocious to reorganize the team, following the purest Enutrof principles.
As soon as the ship arrived I swapped the crews and, after the usual maintenance, sent the ship to bring back all the resources required to build a proper mine, as well as the tools necessary to make use of it, for the cheapest possible cost, and prepare trading opportunities for the mineral on the continent.

The trading route was now well established, and the resources didn’t take long to arrive.

The mine was built in a record time, and we quickly started digging deeper in the ice.

The first deliveries were shipped to our clients, and each day new orders arrived. Always more hungry for wealth, I pushed the mine to its maximum, digging deeper and deeper.

And that turned out to be my greatest mistake… Digging always deeper made us go TOO deep. We woke an ancestral evil.

One day, or maybe a night, miners left the mine, terrorized by something inside. It was hard to make something coherent out of their tales, but I soon didn’t need further stories: creatures made of rocks and ice started to pour from the mine. Surprisingly, they weren’t aggressive outside the mine, however when we tried to go in, pushing further and getting close to our richest vein, their reaction changed in an instant. But the most terrifying was the fact that they were eating my mineral!

Some miners say that one of these ice cracklers leads the others from the center of our mine. A colossal creature, immune to any attacks

The following week, rumors of the appearance had spread and reached the continent. The next ship brought its load of adventurers. They came to me and introduced themselves as members of the Hunters’ Guild. They came for the sake of hunting, fame and trophies. As long as they didn’t touch my mineral and could rid me of these cracklers, I granted them free access to the Chillberg Ice Floe. But this also is another story…

Remember, if you watched AFK #7 or read the transcript, that this island will have a ton more creatures than this. This is just the start of the information. As you can see from the screenshot, the Bliblis are the first monster family that you see. So do not think this is all the monsters that we are getting. Ankama said that there will be 3 major areas on the island, excluding mines, for the players to see with multiply different families in each area. Hence, the Bliblis are just one of the families we will see in the first zone, and the Cracklers are in the mines. Plus, we have a minimum of 3 weeks until release (2 royal dungeons left so 2 April will not be a release date), with it more likely being 4 or 5 more weeks. They would not want to give us all the information right now. So stop complaining that this island looks horrible and boring. Ankama gave us a hint even at the bottom about the next information that they will unveil: Monsters. This information was about mining, that is why cracklers were announced. Bliblis were announced since they are the first monster you see. Expect information on monsters next week since it will be a story about the Hunter's Guild. Maybe just the rest of the monsters in the first zone. These are tiny teasers, not the full scoop happy.

This sounds like frigost. It's weird because the roadmap stated frigost, not Chilliberg.

The game really needs more high lvl content. I already see lots of people quitting because there's nothing to do besides UB.

Just an update from Azael on the FR Forums. Bliblis are indeed the lowest monsters on Frigost (yes, this is Frigost for those doubting. Even the FR devs still refer to it as Frigost. Wonder why they changed it if they prefer it. Probably better for story telling), and that this post is just one of several Frigost posts. They want to do these posts slowly so as to gather feedback. And for those worrying that all these monsters will be recycles, Azael has confirmed that a lot more time is being dedicated for the high level monsters and the final boss (Count Harebourg) to make them unique. So do not worry, there will be monsters unique to Frigosts, especially in the highest zone of the 3 zones (which is where most players will be anyways).

This devblog is the first of many, and as much as I don’t want to spoil information I wanted to address some of your main concerns.

What you see here is the first part of the island.

Your feedback and critics about the Whisperers Island were taken into account and we put the emphasis on:

  • Bringing more identity to the areas: this will be the case and I’ll let you discover the other parts of the island.
  • More varying monsters: that’s also the case. You only saw the first 2 families; this isn’t even half of the families of the island.

Of course the reuse of Bliblis is visible, but we also spent a lot of time on some families for the end of the island, and the bosses.

Now we’re aware that this is still one of the main points to work on for our future content. For this island, we had to make a hard decision: more families but reusing existing ones, or less exclusive families?

We thought it would be better to offer you more content and especially content that is not only for high level character, and could be playable for a larger part of the community (Brrblis family will be lower level than the rest, for example).

Also, this island will bring real novelties. Without going into details, I can tell you that quests were pushed much further than anything before, background was also worked on more than before, the map becomes a real source of information, areas have more “story”.

For example you will have access to daily quests specific to the island, discover new NPCs, etc…

Depending on your feedback on this island, we will see how to develop the next adventure islands.

We’re also working on the island right now based on the feedback of the Heralds, and I think I can say that they very much enjoy the island (even if your feedback on the families is similar to what we received from them, and something we are aware of).

I hope this answered some of your questions and I’ll try to take the time to explain our decisions on this island, and the next ones.

I understand that you think I’m just talking and not giving actual facts, however I can assure you that:
    [*]We take the players feedback into consideration, we offered our heralds the possibility to test Frigost pretty early, and will try our maximum to take their feedback into account, as much as possible.
  • As I said there will be a second step of communication where we will talk more about the content itself. You will have another peculiar devblog in which we will cover all aspects of Frigost and the reasons behind our decisions.

Also be sure that these decisions might be influenced by your feedback.

(Answering a player asking if, should Chillberg Island be a success, will the team adapt the existing adventure islands with the same care)

Hi Sleg,

I surely hope Frigost will be perfect, and we’d like to improve the adventure content even more, but we already think the island is quite an evolution compared to the others.

We’re expecting a lot from your feedback to see if this direction is what you want, and we hope to do even better with each island.

Concerning your question about the existing islands, we will release new islands this year (not only adventure), but we’d also like to revamp the existing ones.

When we implemented adventure islands, we always had story, areas and quests in mind, but were limited in our means to develop them.

We developed it along with many patches (Mount Zinit, Whisperers and now Frigost) and we think we can now offer small real adventures to the players.

As I said, we will publish a devblog that should answer these questions with precision.
