Currently, Ogrines are an integral part of WAKFU, and paying for subscriptions with them has become common practice. However, we've found purchasing subscriptions with real money and doing so with Ogrines to be unequal, and players' loyalty and engagement are no longer being sufficiently rewarded. Therefore the cost of subscription in Ogrines will be changed, but we are making the decision not to change the price of real-money subscriptions. Here’s why…

Ogrines allow you to purchase not only items and services in the game, but also subscriptions. Hundreds of thousands participate in this great system every day.

But this increasingly massive usage has revealed a difference between the subscription price in real money and the price in Ogrines.

To give you an example, 1 week of subscription by SMS could cost as much as twice as much as a week bought in Ogrines!

To reduce this inequality, and with the aim of always rewarding players' loyalty and engagement, the price of Ogrine subscriptions will change November 6th at 2 PM GMT / 9 AM EST / 6 AM PST.

The subscription price in real money will not change.
We're only updating the cost in Ogrines, which can seem unfair in the eyes of players who prefer to pay for their subscriptions with real money.

In order to reward player loyalty and engagement, a new discount will be put into action: Continuing Subscription gives a discount of up to 10% on Ogrine resubscriptions (see the table below).

If you resubscribe before the end of your current subscription, you'll be able to take advantage of a discount, whether your initial subscription was bought in euros or Ogrines!

I don't really want to read all those explanations; can you sum it up for me?

The changing of subscription habits in recent years has revealed a major weakness in the current Ogrine system, causing inequalities when compared with subscriptions paid in real money. To reestablish a certain fairness between players who purchase our subscriptions with real money and those who more often use Ogrines, the subscription cost in Ogrines will be changed as of November 6th at 2 PM GMT / 9 AM EST / 6 AM PST.

On the other hand, we're putting in place a new discount for players who resubscribe with Ogrines. Continuing Subscription gives a discount of up to 10% on Ogrine resubscriptions (see the table above). If you resubscribe before the end of your current subscription, you'll be able to take advantage of a discount, whether your initial subscription was bought in euros or Ogrines!

And finally, allow us to remind you once more: the price of subscription with real money is not increasing!

Why are subscription costs in Ogrines changing?

Today, virtual currencies such as Ogrines have been proven to work, and multiple other online games have integrated this type of mechanism, as we have done in DOFUS with the Kama Exchange. But it wasn't always that way.

With the implementation of Ogrines in 2009, we adopted an innovative system, not much seen in the landscape of online video games. The system, as advantageous for the players as for Ankama, permitted everyone to subscribe as they liked, based (thanks to the KE in DOFUS) on goods exchanged between players.

For a long time, the system worked well. But little by little, a major weakness with the Ogrines system became apparent: it created inequalities compared with real-money subscription costs.

How does the Ogrines subscription offer currently work?

Real-money subscriptions are available in several tiers. The idea is simple: the longer a subscription is, the bigger your discount. That's what we call price scaling.

For Ogrines, as for real-money subscriptions, the idea of price scaling was applied. Therefore: the bigger the purchased pack of Ogrines is, the bigger the discount you will enjoy.

Price scaling was conserved: an Ogrine purchased as part of a pack of 47,000 costs less than half as much as one bought in a pack of 700!

How does the real money subscription offer work?

As explained earlier, real-money subscriptions are available in several tiers. The idea is simple: the longer a subscription is, the bigger your discount. That's what we call price scaling.

This price scaling works perfectly, because each method has its advantages:
The shortest subscriptions are, in the end, the most expensive, but offer you greater flexibility. If you can't play for a week or a month because you're on vacation, for example, this subscription plan allows you to avoid subscription-time "losses".
The subscriptions of several months or a year are continuous subscriptions, but offer a more advantageous price which rewards your loyalty and engagement.

This way, a year's subscription costs less than half as much as a year through weekly subscriptions.

This price scaling works perfectly for real-money subscriptions, but creates inequalities when applied to Ogrine subscriptions.

Why is there a problem with the current Ogrine pricing scale?

Because the scaling for Ogrines was applied to the purchase of Ogrine packs, and not the purchase of subscriptions, only the latter of which takes into account duration and justifies scaling (following the example of real-world subscriptions).

As a result, once purchased, Ogrines could be used bit by bit, little sum by little sum. The price scaling was no longer linked to the duration of the subscription (as it is for real money). As a day of subscription cost the same amount of Ogrines whether it was purchased by the week or the year, it was much more interesting to buy a big pack of Ogrines and subscribe week to week to have as much flexibility as possible.

The numbers speak for themselves:
– Nearly 50% of subscriptions paid in Ogrines use Ogrines purchased in a pack of 47,000 Ogrines.
– More than 95% of subscriptions paid in Ogrines are weekly subscriptions.

In effect, it was possible to put your year of subscription on pause at any moment and even to stretch it out over two years, all while profiting from a preferential rate! In the grand scheme of things, this has some heavy consequences.

Obviously, this is advantageous for Ogrine users, but it is above all unfair to the players who buy subscriptions with real money and who pay more for the same flexibility.

As an example, 1 week of subscription by SMS costs approximately €3, while in Ogrines bought as part of a pack of 47,000, it drops to €0.89.

Once we had identified the problem, we had to find an optimal solution, without touching the subscription price in real money, which we did not want to impact at all.

How will equality be restored?

After several months of thought, the fairest solution was to reevaluate the value of Ogrine subscriptions to reduce the disparity compared to real-money subscriptions.

Here are the new subscription costs in Ogrines:
A new discount will be put in place to offset this change and reward loyalty: Continuing Subscription gives a discount of up to 10% on Ogrine resubscriptions (see the table above).

While we update the price of subscriptions in Ogrines, we wanted to put into place a new offer making it possible to continue to reward the players whose engagement and loyalty are strong and for whom the Ogrine remains the best way to subscribe.

To do that, we instituted a new discount, the Continuing Subscription, which gives up to 10% off resubscriptions bought with Ogrines (see table above). The longest subscriptions remain the most advantageous.

Is there a reward for players who prefer to get their subscriptions with Ogrines?

A discount of up to 10% will be applied to resubscriptions, paid for with Ogrines and purchased before the end of the current subscription: that's the idea of Continuous Subscription.

Example: You're subscribed for 1 month (real money or Ogrines). If you renew your subscription before the end of the term, your new 1-month subscription will cost only 4,900 Ogrines instead of 5,200. And if you choose to go to a one week subscription instead of a month, it will cost you 1,250 Ogrines instead of 1,400.

This discount was conceived especially for the players who prefer to subscribe with Ogrines.

I created an account 4 days ago and I still can't subscribe because of "temporarily unavailable"
Do you want new accounts to subscribe at all?

Wait, so you are increasing the price for ogrines?

I can barely afford to buy 3500 ogrines and now it is going up by 5200 ogrines for a 1 month subscription.

I have two questions

1. After this, do ogrines still expire?

2. Will rates change? Because on my 3rd world country I can only afford a week sub, which costs roughly US$2.50 per week. With that "subscription chain" I am paying $5 on my first week and $2.50 on the succeeding 7 weeks. With the new rate, I am forced to pay like $5 for the first week and $4.5 for the succeeding weeks. That doesn't sound right.

No more one week subs for me. Even after the discount, the cost for subbing a week is much higher

than before. I guess it's fair for those who sub not using Ogrines? o.0

The price of real-money subscriptions will not change. Only the Ogrine cost of Ogrine subscriptions.

This is unfair then.

I can only pay via ogrines and now you increase the price, how does people find this fair?

There is only one thing that Bothers Me... "it's fair" For ppl that use Real Money?, You know... a lot of pay methods Doesn't support uneven numbers, like Paysafecard/Ukash, and the other methodes like Paypal have a high additional charge... so at the end the persons that are ****** are those that don't want to use their credit card for a dubious company like Ankama~

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, i'd like that Ankama is going to be "fair" for everyone, and i have no problems with pay some more cash for the game, but than you should make some kind of subscription with an even cash amount, like 25/50/100€
