Fantastic news, everyone! Our Beta journey is almost over. Today, Square Enix and Ankama confirm that WAKFU will launch worldwide on Wednesday, February 29, 2012.

Published by Square Enix, Inc. and developed by Ankama, WAKFU is an all-new, tactical turn-based MMORPG that will be launching worldwide as a free download in February 29, 2012 and include with it a large amount of gameplay content to experience at no cost. In addition, an optional monthly subscription fee of $6.00 will give players access to premium content, and a microtransaction-based store will allow users to purchase cosmetic items

To ensure that we provide you with the best launch experience possible, we will be organizing a Stress Test Weekend starting tomorrow, for the North American server, NOX. Join us throughout the entire weekend as we host several interesting in-game events and win unique items!

Featuring an amazing anime art style, players can choose from 12 unique character classes and engage in rebuilding a world lost in chaos through strategic combat, crafting, and even national politics!

Thank all of you for your loyalty, and we hope that the release version will exceed your expectations and your wishes for WAKFU. See you soon in-game!

@lago92 To me, This game is a P2P game, the F2P option is really just to let players have a feel for the game to see if they will enjoy it and want to continue to advance then they can pay the subscription fee, if it's going to be anything like dofus then this is how it will be, a F2P player can level as high as he wants just the fact that it will most likely be slower due to the amount of areas F2P only has access too.

This game is going to be amazing, there is no other game like it other then dofus as I don't really appreciate cash shops I would prefer them to increase the amount monthly but I am glad that it's so cheap too, I'm very excited for this game, and sad that it is released on the 29th.. See you all then and during stress test biggrin

And then the fact that it is a subscription is what ticks me off. I mean I would gladly pay 60$ for this game and then have a 100% cosmetic shop. But since it is a subscription it is going to be costing me a lot of money as time goes on. And I suspect this game to last at least 3 years.

So what is 6 X 36? That is 216$ just for 3 years of access to content just to even the playing field.

great math now look at the actual big players in the MMO world

pay $50+ for the game (get 1 month free) then pay $16 a month

so for 3 yrs its 16x35+50 =610

Wow thank goodness wakfu is just over 1/3 the cost of the leading MMO's who have bugs , balance issues.. and are always putting out more content because eventually they need more.. so looks like this game is right in line ..

Sadly some of that stuff isn't in the game. No wabbit island sad. Also we don't have mounts at the moment either.

My guess is that subscription gets you access to a few extra dungeons, and maybe an automatic wisdom bonus of some sort.

This is how I view it when people argue about f2p and p2p.
