MULTIMAN: concept and how to get them

MULTIMAN: concept and how to get them
2013-11-19 19:10 184
They’re coming, and they’re about to change your gameplay experience forever! Multiman is a sidekick system that allows you to control one or several characters in addition to yours! A super-bonus for those who play solo, a new way of dominating dungeons for guilds – a little revolution in WAKFU! And it's coming December 10...

The Multimen are the first characters to introduce the sidekick system to WAKFU. When you call them, Lumino, Skale, Krobax, Trank, Beelzebug, and Shadow will leap to your aid, under your direction! And this will just bring a fresh new way of experiencing the game, and develop new strategies.

Who are they?

6 Multimen, 6 Dofus... you do the math! These Vigilantes are hybrid creatures created from monsters and the magic of the Dofus. Ereziah Melkewel created them:
  • Firefoux + Ivory Dofus = Lumino
  • Red Scaraleaf + Crimson Dofus = Beelzebug
  • Shark + Turquoise Dofus = Skale
  • Crobak + Emerald Dofus = Krobax
  • Treechnid + Ochre Dofus = Trank
  • Ereziah's Shadow + Ebony Dofus = Shadow
Each Multiman also has his own powers. You'll know more soon...

What is a Sidekick exactly?

A Sidekick fights alongside adventurers, is controlled by the player and counts as a character during a fight. Note that they won’t be usable in PvP.

Sidekicks can be equipped with all the same gear as a player's character, with no restrictions besides levels.

A character can control up to two Sidekicks at once in a fight.

The Sidekicks win experience but can't become more powerful than your character.

Sidekicks can be exchanged between players via the Marketplaces.

How does one acquire a Sidekick?

The first Sidekicks will be the Multimen. You can obtain them on the Boutique or via subscription offers.

In order to first be able to test a Multiman, you will get to test them for free ingame. The multiman available for free will change each week, and allow you to test Lumino, Skale, Krobax, Trank, Beelzebug and Shadow one after the other, if your account has a running subscription.

A seventh Sidekick will be available entirely for free ingame: the Astrub Mercenary! Getting him will be easy; you’ll only need to complete a quest in Astrub!

How to get them

Beelzebug, Skale, Krobax, and Trank:
The elemental Multimen will be sold separately in the Boutique starting from December 10th:
  • 5800 Ogrines each
  • 9000 Ogrines for 2 Elementary Multimen
  • 14000 Ogrines for all 4 Elementary Multimen
The “Light” Multiman will be offered with 6 month subscription (additionally to the usual gifts).

The “Darkness” Multiman will be offered with 1 year subscription (additionally to the usual gifts).

Why not asking us in a Poll like in DOFUS?

The Sidekick feature will be quite different in DOFUS and WAKFU. We chose precise acquisition means that would better fit what we have in mind for the game. Also, development of this model is already well advanced and modify it now could have a direct impact on the quality of the content.

Don’t forget that you’ll get the possibility to test this feature with the Mercenary of Astrub, and the weekly testing available with the Multimen.

This seems pretty sick

Is one of the Multimen an Enutruf replacement? If so I'll buy them in mass, because anything is better than raising 50 Enu's just to drop items.

Ok. This is the COOLEST thing you've ever done. If it's implemented well I'll resubscribe even though my feca still sucks. Because I HATE looking for a group, and HATE multiclienting. This is PERFECT.

there was a video posted for lumino today but for the dofus side not wakfu

it doesn't really show anything though just him dancing around and confirming that he's a firefoux
I did some link clicking which led me here Click here

and it shows his spells
There is more information about the Dofus versions on JOL (Watch out. It is in French) which has more spell info on all 6 Multimen.

This is Speculation, but:

Judging by the spells/stats that the Dofus versions have:
  • one could speculate that the Wakfu version of Trank will be the tank
  • Beezelbug will be more for disabling (i.e reducing MP, AP, range).
  • Another speculation based on the spells that the Dofus one has, the Shadow might weaken enemies (in terms of power, resistances) while doing damage at the same time.
  • As for Skale and Krobax, it might be difficult to speculate anything about what they can do here since they do a lot of things in the Dofus one. If I were to take a stab at it (people must be behind me when I do take stabs at things. I don't want to accidentally hit somebody), I'd guess a little mix of buffs and damage.

I can (9 times out of 10, I probably will) be wrong about this. I also wouldn't be surprised if the spell catalog for each one will be limited to only one (and maybe a secondary) form of team play (i.e Lumino having only all heal spells and Shadow's spells will all involve dealing damage). That would probably explain why you can have two Multimen out as opposed to Dofus' one.

*Speculation over*

P.S The "Dancing around" = Lumino's Spell Animations on Dofus.

I can understand Ankama and people, who like this idea. It will help with creating a "group" for harder content.

But there is one question. If this is the direction, where Wakfu is going, can we still call it mmorpg?
Or maybe just some turn based online strategy/rpg, where you control group of characters and interact with other players from time to time, mostly to chat, trade or pvp?

Because if it's the second one, then there is one problem. Will people really want to pay so much money for it, when there are already so many great turn based strategy/rpg games? I mean, why would I play Wakfu with all those bugs, huge p2p price, botique, class imbalance, lags, etc., when I can just play HoM&M, FF or something?

Let's be honest. Ankama with their questionable ideas survived for so long only, because there is 0 competition in turn based mmorpgs. But if they turn their mmorpg into something else - the competition will be there waiting to crush them.

I'm curious, is it possible to have more than one of the same type (example, 2 Astrub Mercenaries) in battle, equipped to the same character, at the same time? If so that will be nice, because not everyone is going to be able to afford a full spread of Multimen right away.

My guess is yes, we can have multiples of the same type of Multiman, when you consider that the Trial ones will rotate on a weekly basis, so the chances of the whole server having access to Shadow are pretty high, and a party of 2 or 3 people is likely to see folks choose this pretty often.

Be kinda fun from a roleplay standpoint to dress up to match your PvM assists

I think hakazabajub may have a point... im all for multiman as a solo er cause it will help me greatly but idk 2 at a time per person... that could be a bit much i think one is fine... though im not super upset if it stays at 2 mind you.
HakazabaJub 20 November 2013 - 22:43
Ok, here is my suggestion to limit the effect of this, make it so you can only have one multiman per player. I think that would be the best of both worlds.

Lol at the people screaming "P2W!!" and "ITS GONNA TURN EVERYONE ANTI-SOCIAL"

I only have 1 account, have soloed most everything into my 110s because too many guilds are full of petty baby drama that I want nothing of OR are completely dead alt-graveyards. Once in a blue moon someone has a free spot and groups with me. That's pretty much been my Wakfu experience for the past year.

Now with this I wouldn't have to sit around waiting for empty spots in groups and I could tackle some slightly harder content at my own whim. I've always been an advocate of the idea of using a second character in-game and I am glad to see it being implemented.
