MULTIMAN: concept and how to get them

MULTIMAN: concept and how to get them
2013-11-19 19:10 184
They’re coming, and they’re about to change your gameplay experience forever! Multiman is a sidekick system that allows you to control one or several characters in addition to yours! A super-bonus for those who play solo, a new way of dominating dungeons for guilds – a little revolution in WAKFU! And it's coming December 10...

The Multimen are the first characters to introduce the sidekick system to WAKFU. When you call them, Lumino, Skale, Krobax, Trank, Beelzebug, and Shadow will leap to your aid, under your direction! And this will just bring a fresh new way of experiencing the game, and develop new strategies.

Who are they?

6 Multimen, 6 Dofus... you do the math! These Vigilantes are hybrid creatures created from monsters and the magic of the Dofus. Ereziah Melkewel created them:
  • Firefoux + Ivory Dofus = Lumino
  • Red Scaraleaf + Crimson Dofus = Beelzebug
  • Shark + Turquoise Dofus = Skale
  • Crobak + Emerald Dofus = Krobax
  • Treechnid + Ochre Dofus = Trank
  • Ereziah's Shadow + Ebony Dofus = Shadow

Each Multiman also has his own powers. You'll know more soon...

What is a Sidekick exactly?

A Sidekick fights alongside adventurers, is controlled by the player and counts as a character during a fight. Note that they won’t be usable in PvP.

Sidekicks can be equipped with all the same gear as a player's character, with no restrictions besides levels.

A character can control up to two Sidekicks at once in a fight.

The Sidekicks win experience but can't become more powerful than your character.

Sidekicks can be exchanged between players via the Marketplaces.

How does one acquire a Sidekick?

The first Sidekicks will be the Multimen. You can obtain them on the Boutique or via subscription offers.

In order to first be able to test a Multiman, you will get to test them for free ingame. The multiman available for free will change each week, and allow you to test Lumino, Skale, Krobax, Trank, Beelzebug and Shadow one after the other, if your account has a running subscription.

A seventh Sidekick will be available entirely for free ingame: the Astrub Mercenary! Getting him will be easy; you’ll only need to complete a quest in Astrub!

How to get them

Beelzebug, Skale, Krobax, and Trank:
The elemental Multimen will be sold separately in the Boutique starting from December 10th:
  • 5800 Ogrines each
  • 9000 Ogrines for 2 Elementary Multimen
  • 14000 Ogrines for all 4 Elementary Multimen

Lumino
The “Light” Multiman will be offered with 6 month subscription (additionally to the usual gifts).

Shadow
The “Darkness” Multiman will be offered with 1 year subscription (additionally to the usual gifts).

Why not asking us in a Poll like in DOFUS?

The Sidekick feature will be quite different in DOFUS and WAKFU. We chose precise acquisition means that would better fit what we have in mind for the game. Also, development of this model is already well advanced and modify it now could have a direct impact on the quality of the content.

Don’t forget that you’ll get the possibility to test this feature with the Mercenary of Astrub, and the weekly testing available with the Multimen.

The game is ruled by those multi-boxers nowadays. I don't see anyone making arguments about those people.
Umm, what? People talk about the problem of multiaccounting all the time with this thread as main example:

Yes people talk about it on that thread, but my main point was actually that people are not complaining about it on this topic!!

Many people are concerned and "afraid" about this new feature because this game will no longer be an "mmo" in their eyes if Ankama continues planning to implement this new feature. I was pointing out that fearing is not really necessary since this game is already ruled mostly by multi-boxers (solo players).

It is inevitable, as long as this game continues being a sandbox (which always will) Ankama can't really prevent people from playing on multiple accounts unless they change it to action mmo...

While I do question the whole "sandbox" label associated with Wakfu. I'd have to agree that this really isn't much of an "MMO" anymore either... if it ever was.

If anything, I'd call Wakfu a CORPG (Cooperative Online Role Playing Game).
**Much of Wakfu is "instanced" and PvP/Politics are pointless, without merit or use.

To call Wakfu an MMO would be like calling League of Legends or Minecraft an MMO.

Hell, the newest system "Multi-men" are almost a carbon copy of the "Henchmen" in the original Guild Wars. (a CORPG).

Wiki:

Players gather in outposts and towns, organizing expeditions for their journeys outside city gates. Whenever your character is in town, you may occasionally find it difficult to assemble an ideal group of players. When this happens, you can usually find several NPC adventurers waiting near the town gates, ready for recruitment.

Henchmen are computer-controlled adventurers who are always ready to travel with you. Some players hire one or two henchmen to round out a team. Others actually prefer to play alone, using one character to lead an entire team of henchmen, often complemented with heroes.

In order to hire a henchman, press "p" on your keyboard to open the Party Search panel. After that, click on the tab that reads "Henchmen". Then choose on the ones you want by clicking on them and choosing "add" on the bottom-right hand corner of the panel. Double-clicking the names will also add them to your party, or remove if they were already added. You can also add henchmen individually by clicking on the NPC and then on the "+" symbol in your Party Window.

The level of a "henchie" depends on your current location. When you map travel to another town or outpost, henchmen who aren’t available in that location drop from your team. The ones who remain will have the same level they normally would if you recruited them from the new location. They also take their share of any gold and items you find on your adventures (Although items which drop for them do not appear).

The main differences are that GW Henchmen are automatically the same level you are and you cannot control them. They still gain loot/exp as well.

I honestly dont see why so many people are whining about this, you dont NEED to buy one of these, as someone stated earlier, u will get by fine without it, but if u like to get some help and i know a lot of people do these days then u can get one, I dont really see how u guys can be judging them when there not even out yet ._.''

But if that video is anything to go on im definatly grabbing me a scarafly-guy.. I'l name him Scars' scaraguy c:

As long as people other than me and my friends play it, it's an MMO. If the circle of folks is small enough that I know everyone on the server, then I'd probably classify it as a regular multiplayer game.

Considering that the number of people who play this game on each server is in the many thousands, I'd say no matter how many multi-accounts or Sidekicks are used, it's still going to be an MMO.

So shush with the "omg is it really an mmo" bull.

When do we get to know more?! Dofus has these wonderful mini presentations with spells and animations and everything!

If I'm going to be lured into a possible 6 month or 1 year subscription for the game this December or January, that's ok, because it's my birthday on the 20th and Xmas is right after. Even a poor sap like me will have the spare cash to get a subscription of that size.

They did at least pick a good time of year for the Multiman release. Far worse would have been feb/march when everyone is having their holiday hangover, and scrambling to get taxes together and pay off all their purchases from the holidays.

I just hope one of the Sidekicks has a ranged pushback spell, so I can attempt Hagen runs! Mix that with some pushback summons and I'm set, baby! (Or not, because it's still probably going to be a much better idea to bring an actual player along, but I can dream, right?)

And about people, who already bought 1 year p2p and "missed" multiman reward. Ankama, you do realize, thar you're basically telling them "if you buy 1 year p2p now to get the multiman, you will miss all the 1 year p2p rewards for the next year!",
Karakedi 22 November 2013 - 20:47
I am very happy with this Multimen, I am very excited and looking forward to it. I really hope they can drop items too, it would be really helpful.

And for those who are afraid that this feature will make people play solo more often, that is already the case. The game is ruled by those multi-boxers nowadays. I don't see anyone making arguments about those people. Multi accounting is p2w too if you didn't notice. People with more than 1 account will always have more advantage than people with 1 account. And those multi boxers level a lot faster than those with 1 account, more drops for themselves etc etc.

I am sorry for you guys that you are not happy with this change, but I am very happy with it. I am stuck at lvl 110+ and I am sick an tired to wait for parties also, it's not easy for me to get to lvl 120. At least this way I don't have to wait till I can find a group. Besides, I dc regularly lately, with this new feature I don't have to annoy people at least when I dc again.

I have 1 question though.
Do we have to lvl up Multimen just like the maka weapons, or are they my lvl already when we purchase one??

It would be nice if they are your level already when purchasing. Leveling myself is a pain already. Leveling a Multimen till my lvl in order to progress would only make my own progress slower since I need to lvl the Multimen first...

Only subscribers will be allowed to test multimen. Wich means you have to subscribe now before subscribing later on after they add them as gift for subscribing. In other words you have to subscribe twice.

How f2p player can learn about these multimens - how can they decide wich one to buy if they cannot even test them for free?

I personally expect this sidekick system ter help me level up faster. It can be difficult ter find players 'oo want ter do wotcher doin'.

Groups

Sometimes I find a player or two and we can fight this or that type of monster for some time, right, but always one 'as ter leave eventually - sometimes much too soon. Right. This leaves me and the uvver player in a difficult place, right, we usually can't fight the same mobs anylonger and the bleedin' group falls apart.
The chuffin' sidekick system may prevent a group from fallin' apart if at least one player 'as two sidekicks ter summon. That is if two players leave the bloody group and the chuffin' summonable sidekicks can actually - ter some point - allow the continuation of the group. That is a right good aspect of this system even fough it is already clear that sidekicks do not 'ave the bloomin' 'power' and range of abilities that a real class 'as, right, ergo in many cases real players will still be necessary and therefor prefered.

Elitism

Plenty of players seem ter dislike "elitists" in-game, init?Elitists seem ter be them 'oo got much more kamas than the rest, got all the bloody epic equipment, right, and only play wiv a select few 'oo are sharin' in them prerequisites. I do not expect sidekicks ter be as usable in 'igh-level dungeons as real classes are, let alone in fightin' UB's, init?So that would not change considerably the gameplay 'ere.
Sidekicks 'ave ter be leveled, right, like makas. It can be expected that richer players will be able ter buy 1 (or many more) 1 year subs ter get Shadow (might be more like a sram/sacrier type wiv swappin' positions and backstab?), and 1 (or many more) subs ter get 'healer' sidekick Lumino.
Wiv the help of their multi-accounts they will be able ter powerlevel their sidekick. Their sidekicks will 'ave the Mae West equipment, naturally.
Here we see, right, just as in the real world, more brass = more options = copping ahead and stayin' ahead of the chuffin' rest. This sidekicks system will not change 'elitism' as it already is. I fink we just 'ave ter accept that some players 'ave more brass than yer, so wot, isit?It can be a bit of an annoyance, it can frustrate the heck out of yer, right, but still.. in the chuffin' end it don't take oray anyfink from yor account, init?
The only fin' that we can expect is that IF some bloke puts a sidekick(s) on the chuffin' market, right, the prices will be ridiculous. For the first couple of monffs (say 'till march 2014) do not expect the chuffin' prices in-game ter be right good at all.
I 'ope that the bloody Astrub Mercanary sidekick will be cool enough 'till then, right, or I just sub ter the bloomin' healer one, right, sounds nice.

Tradable

Good fin' that they are tradable, right, yer can even trade one sidekick for anuvver. Funny if in a group of two each can summon two Luminos, right, is that possible?

The Cost

Me first reaction ter the chuffin' ogrine cost of the 4 elemental sidekicks were "that's expensive". But I did put that cost in perspective, right, I needed to.
It is like buyin' a pet Tofu wiv ogrines. Yes, right, it is a bit much, but it is sumfink yer buy once. Yer can also buy a Tofu from the bleedin' market in-game, right? If yer WANT it, and fink yer NEED it, ffen yer 'ave ter decide if it is WORTH the bloody cost.
A sidekick may be worff it, may be not. I'm thankful that Ankama will let us test-drive each Multiman sidekick first, ffus allowin' us all ter make an informed decision. Yer can't 'ave a knees-up wivout a joanna. I appreciate that.
As for the two sidekicks that yer need ter subscribe for, I can spot the reasonin' from Ankama's point of view 'ere but I'd ravver spot ffem buyable wiv ogrines instead.
However yer 'ave a look at it, a coin 'as always two sides (ffree if yer take the bloody narrow band connectin' the uvver two sides). Ankama is first and foremost a company, they need ter make brass.
It'd be silly for a company ter implement sumfink new wivout cashin' in on it. Ankama is not a philantropist, right, simply put, and does not have ter give this oray for free. It's an extra, right, like some pets and maka-items.
Like a coin, there is a flipside ter evryfink, and we all like ter point out the flipside, right, don't we?

TLTR?

Short version: I basically am sayin' that I welcome this addition and it will 'elp me out wiv levelin', I 'ope. Right.
I do not like ter be dependent on uvver players ter level up all the chuffin' time. I fink Ankama should earn some brass out of this.
