Spoiler: (highlight to show)
Pretty much what micro said. The machine has to slip out of the time stream, otherwise it would only travel back in time a few seconds, to the point it was turned on, and then stop since "back then in time" it was not "rewinding".
so, 40% gathered over 200 years
30 from the dragon
30 from the tree of life
and 90% is drained to move it just a few seconds at first, before the spell builds momentum. If he hurried and drained the tree a second time, he would go back in time to when he was still draining it, killing at least half of Sadida. Did you see how Amalia lived longer than everyone else? Pretty much that.
but I doubt they will bring Grovy back. It would diminish the value of his sacrifice. I want him back... but it's not meant to be...
also, a girl i know just finished watching the finale, without spoilers. ;_; x1000
