Just say NO to Runaway

I posted this in my Air Rogue thread, but I think it needs to be said here biggrin

I made an alt rogue to test the Runaway talent, because I was very skeptical about it. Gotta say... my fears were confirmed. It does NOT work like the Sram ability (you don't dodge the attack).

Runaway gives you a 1-40% chance of moving back 1-3 squares AFTER you are hit. This means you WILL take damage before you run away. Furthermore, when you stop running away, you will EXPOSE YOUR BACK to the target that hit you. In other words: you set them up for a free backstab.

Every time you are hit, you might run away. Think about that. What's to stop a ranged class from keeping you away? If they keep procing Runaway while you keep trying to get close to them, how are you supposed to get in for the kill? Not to mention: every class can move 3 squares by default, and every class can hit you from 3 squares away. Even if you run away, chances are, you'll be hit again anyway.

Yeah.. Cra's would have a swell time getting us to run away...Even a level 1 could beat a level 100 with just 2 ap pokes >.>
I think Runaway is more a Earth Rogue talent since they are the ranged rogue.

Bingo. This hits the subject dead on, Since earth rogue is ranged, there's a need ta' keep yer distance, I suppose it COULD work as well for fire rogue, but since air rogue feels kinda like a weaker Sac ta' me, I said nope, bombs look pretty damn interestin though.
Yeah, I don't think it's a skill you should be adding as an air rogue.
As a skill though it does have it's uses.
Say you're an earth rogue fighting against an Iop, and he needs to move 3 spaces to get to you. He starts off with an uppercut (let's, for the sake of this argument say he's agi) and procs runaway. If he has no more MP, you've pretty much dodged at least 3 jabs. Plus with the distance you've put between yourself and him you've set yourself up for a nice Pulsar shot.

I'd think it'd be good for fire rogues as well since you will want some distance to place some bombs.

Against Cras though I can see how it would be a problem if you don't have enough range. Maybe keep a boombot somewhere close to him; the AoE and range increase from boombot's pretty big. And if you keep the boombot in front of the Cra you can block his LoS and force him to move a couple cells.

Just don't get it if you're opting for the dagger build.

Theres also the chance of stepping back into the penalty panel. But I believe the points is better spent elsewhere than backstep.

Well, what would you prefer? Having your back exposed, versus possibly eating...say, a fire sac's punishment who is on the brink of death and has used cling ta life/moribund and has 1 hp, and has 100% crit rate?

Actually, WarWeak on the FR Forums confirmed that the backstab problem is just a graphically glitch and that there is no added damage. Others on the FR Forums have confirmed this as well.
Well that's a bit better... still, I don't like the idea of being forced into a corner.
Being force into a corner isn't the main problem, it's being force into a group of mobs, or all the way into the edge of the map which either push you back, kill your mp, or kill your wp.

Edge of map (special tiles) is what I meant by corner biggrin 
So generally this is for earth Rogues, correct? I've been looking up various Rogue builds now and so far I've seen that earth generally has little to no abilities, save if they are using fire as well.

Runaway seems to have its pros and cons, but with the fact that there are far less range classes than not, I think Runaway might be worth it in the end. It's definitely one of those moves that are double edged though.
Its much better now. You teleport three squares away. Also when you do it keeps u 1 square away from the edge. Its still kinda random and teleported me in front of a monster but it works much better.
Allows run and gunners with earth more mobility.

I think they broke the skill so people can try it out cause as of now all you need is 1 pt in it and don't have to put more in. Most likely for people to try out and get restated later
Good step in the right direction, but it still needs work. It should really let you dodge the attack!
That I don't mind, the main issue is, does it trigger if attack by a range skill? If it does, it's a huge double edge sword.
Yes, it does. It triggers from any attack made on you as far as I have seen.
Nah, it's bug. It triggers on any attack on any rogue so far.
