How do you mean?

You get xp every time you use a spell in battle. It works by taking your overall XP gained (so all the xp gained from the spells you used within the battle) and sharing it out to the spells depending on how much you use your spells

SO for example (and this is a basic example) :

In a battle you use spell A once, B three times C twice and D none.

Now at the end of that battle, say you got 10xp

Now that 10 xp would be shared amongst the spells in a % of what they were used So:

Spell A: would get around 2 XP ( 20%)
Spell B: Would get 5xp (50%)
Spell C: Would get 3xp (30%)
Spell D would get 0 xp (0%)

I think his question is about leveling them, as a matter of experience per battle.
I have the same doubt actually. Since being in a level 30 party and killing a level 60 mob doesn't give you the same amount of XP from a level 120 mob against a level 60 party.

My Earth enu have all his Earth Branch skills by level 25 and he is only at level 20.
I leveled him in Maya Bay, and only in Maya Bay.

While my Water enu (level 20 as well) have his skills like that: 25 - 10 - 10 - 15 - 20
I leveled him in multiple maps.

Two things. First, the Spell XP isn't based on Character XP, it's based on the level of the monsters you're fighting. This change was implemented in September 2010 (or around then) so you could slowly level weak spells without leveling your character in the progress.

Second, XP is distributed between spells depending on how many AP/MP/WP you spend on them: this makes a 'co-efficient'.

For example, a spell like Blood Rush might have a co-efficient of 1. Defeating a Wodent by using 1 Blood Rush gives 1 spell XP.

However, Smasher has a co-efficient much higher, because using it once against a Wodent grants 12 spell XP.

Lastly, using multiple spells in a fight increases total spell XP gain: 2418 (Clock) 2002 (Hammhour) with 5 Clocks and 4 Hammhours, but only 3672 (Hammhour) with 9 Hammhours and 3459 (Clock) with 9 Clocks.

This is basically the complicated version of what i said. (he didnt seem to have a chance of understanding the complicated version)

But yes. This
