Ogrines are anti-consumer
posté June 15, 2012, 23:37:08 | #1
Ogrines are anti-consumer I can only trust two payment methods for internet purchases, paysafe and prepaid visa cards, and that is because in the worst case scenario you will only lose a small amount of money contained in the card. I have easy access to paysafe cards at any time of the day and i can choose to spend just 10 euros, whereas i have to spend a minimum of 30 euros only at morning time in the bank for the prepaid card and 2 extra euros just for the service of recharging it, so i prefer using paysafe for convenience and in fact that was the only payment method i have used for dofus.

Sadly, wakfu doesn't support paysafe so i decided to buy dofus ogrines by paysafe and then use them to subscribe on wakfu, but then i noticed something disturbing. The ogrine prices are silly. You need 800 ogrines to subscribe for a week but you can only buy 700 ogrines and the next package is 6000 and it's like that for every package. I am aware that Dofus is a different game than wakfu but everything in one game effect directly the other game when it comes to pricing and ogrines. Sooner rather than later Wakfu will fully adopt ogrines. So, here is the scheme:

Subscription cost - Ogrine packages available
800 og for 1 week sub - 700 og package for 2.06 euros
3500 og for 1 month sub or 6 euros - 6000 og package for 10 euros
10,000 og for 3 months sub or 17 euros - 13,000 og package for 20 euros
20,000 og for 6 months sub or 33 euros - 28,000 og package for 40 euros
40,000 og for 1 year sub or 60 euros - 47,000 og package for for 60 euros

Dofus services
Character transfer 9000 og
Restore a character 5000 og
Change sex 2800 og
Change name 2800 og
Add character 6000 og
Change color 700 og

As you can see, almost everything is unconventional.

My analysis on each of the ogrine packages:
The 700 og pack is a rip off since you can only subscribe for a week through the use of ogrines and you need 800 for it. The 6000 pack is just too far off from the first one but it's still convenient and reasonably priced for the "add a character" and "restore a character" services. There should be a 3000 og pack for those that simply want to change their character's name or sex. The 13,000 og pack is alright because it is basically two packs of 6000 with 1000 bonus for spending alot of money at once but there should also be a 15,000 og pack for people that need to transfer a character and at the same time restore or add a character too. As it is now you will have to spend more money than really needed because of how intentionally inconvenient the system is set up. The 29,000 og pack serves no purpose and is basically going towards the japanese style of mmo philosophy of "pay for power" which in this case is kamas trading for real money in-game, only that Ankama makes profit out of it instead of third party kama farming companies. The same can be said about the 47,000 og pack though it's also an obvious choice over paying directly for 1 year subscription since you get 7000 og worth more than 10 euros bonus, which is a flaw of the payment system. It may be there to give consumers the illusion of a good deal so that they are encouraged to purchase a year of sub which they cannot cancel or get refunded afterwards.

Overall, ogrines serve no practical purpose and give no major benefits or flexibility to the consumer, in fact they do the exact opposite. They are there to trick you into spending more money than actually needed and i would as far as calling it an anti-consumer policy which in my opinion is utterly unacceptable for a company of this size that can do alot more than just keep itself running, as we have seen with the release and development of five new titles on three different platforms over the past couple of years.

Don't misunderstand me please, i like the game and that's why i want to find any mistakes and point them out, so that it can become better. I no longer like the direction that Dofus is heading to and the design philosophy that it's developers have adopted, that's why i switched to Wakfu and i wouldn't want to see it selling out like Dofus does just because it's tied to it. A word of advice though for the players that care and have principles, don't use ogrines. Make the people behind them take notice.

Lastly, please understand that this is only my personal opinion and none of this is absolute but i decided to share it anyway and give people a heads up :3

aye. tis similar with the monthly package.

start with 2x 6000 ogrine purchases, then top up every two or three months (if your using ogrines via PaySafeCard)
this is what i have to do, since i havent access to any other form of payment.

i have been sugesting pre payment cards since just after the game went pay to play.
i even told them where to go. i could even have told them the email of the person to contact to talk to about setting up those pre pay cards, but the adress was learned via a trade magazine, so it would not be fair to the company to place the adress here (consumer versus customer as it were)

they could make much more cash with pre paid cards.
a weekly, monthly and 3 monthly card would suffice for most people. even a bundle where if you buy weekly, you get no bonus, monthly you get a few kamas and 3 month you get a pet and kama's.
i belive players would prefer those kinds of rewards, if there must be ones. (but the pet would not be unique, to stop those who arent able to use the cards becasue of local by-laws ect in their contry)

the cards would be cheap to make, easy to use (same as microsoft points ect style cards)
they could even go all around the world (allthough the company i had the adress for was only responcable for the europeand area distribution)
and since the cards would be digital items once used, Ankama would be profiting mainly.
they could also make cards for ogrines that could be used for both wakfu AND dofus.
and character service cards.

so simple. such a small thing realy. and much profit to be had from a small amount of time and work *strokes lobes*
