Mobs after patch, (spoiler: are stupid)
posté January 08, 2012, 05:13:19 | #1
Mobs after patch Just a general complaint-

Mobs got "harder" since last patch.
Because according to Ankama, they want players to be more strategical about their battles.

So what was it that they did, exactly?

....mobs now do more damage.

Now thats just terribly lazy design there: let's make harder mobs- more damage. .....and thats it.

All they did was to give mobs a head start in a DPS race.

A gobball has the same two bland attacks, but only hit harder now.

Designing mobs that are complicated and have a broader set of abilities and tracks of thought in AI. THAT would've been a challenge.

...oh wait. those are Hoodlums Which are okay but theyre hella boring after youre past lvl 40, then you take em as a petty snack between grinding.

derp..

yeah thats true, fancier AI would have been better. but you can really say that 95% of things could be made better.

the problem is, like most things in life, time. they'd only have x amount of staff who have x amount of hours to work on the game, and they're probably wanting to develop it more else where.

They barely have time to deliver the complete game at february, let alone tweak the AI while there's so many other things to do. The AI is certainly dumb right now, and surely needs to be improved, but asking for them to have done it on last patch is a little too much, plus, ONLY AI tweaking would not have solved the problem that you could kill a mob 3 times your level without much problems. They could have made the AI as smart as a player, if they hit the same as before, it wouldn't make any difference, you'd still be able to finish it before it even had time to get your HP to half (or depending on the case, would barely hurt the player at all).

I think its much better this way, and was something the game was needing. The mobs now match their levels (some of them weren't touched by the way, bow meows just got level reduced and are pretty much the same and deal the same damage, just level 3 instead of 5). So you won't be killing a mob 3 times your level easily, you'll need to search a group of your level. Makes much more sense.

Its just as hard as if you tried to kill a mob a lot higher than you before, they just fixed the level part.

Killing mobs at your level/higher than your level with no effort whatsoever just makes the game boring. And now, if you do manage to kill a mob much higher than you, it will feel like a real accomplishment, and you'll be more satisfied with it, as its not just "common thing you can do with any mob".

New creatures with new AI patterns would be nice, but I don't think older monsters necessarily need more complex AI. (Gobballs, for example. They're big dumb sheep. They shouldn't be tactical geniuses any more than a real-world bull should be)

Yeah. Gobballs are just fine, a few other animal mobs too. Humanoid monsters are still pretty dumb though, which makes them easier. (I'm not counting bugs into this) For example, you may make some astrub humanoids walk in "circles" and never get to you just from going to one side to another on the same corner of the battlefield, I would have probably died if wasn't for this happening.

Just to correct, actually bow meows now give 3-4 damage instead of 9-11, if not, they could totally massacre level 3 player XD

Agree i actually like that mobs are harder to kill it adds a challenge to the game

I never touch a mob higher level than me without a group. But I agree that they are stupid... for example, when I have to deal with only 1 mob, I can make a boring battle where I can make him run in circles and I never get hit just by using Assault (Sacrier's spell that swaps the place with a target). And that's one of the stupid fights I had

They were hitting around 5-6 from what I remember, and just the same before. Must be wrong then. On any case, they didn't get stronger as other mobs did. I didn't notice any big change on their HP either.

The AI is really a problem sometimes(and let's ignore the braindead-mob bug), sometime the piwis and tofus use up all their MP, because they can't decide on a taget and just keep runing from one enemy to another(and possibly run out of MP in between).
Just the last time I played against a lvl 16 sadida friend of mine, my lvl 7 rouge warded a 4 doll team and getting hit 3 times by them in the whole fight.
Wanna know how?
Its because the doll AI was so confused by my powder glyphs, that it considered them the main target.
Imagine my surprise when I battle a sadida whose dolls keep directing all their firepower against 3 piles of dust on the ground. I hope they improve the AIs soon (the battle was kinda comedic, I had a good laugh, but would still like a better AI).
