Map design in Wakfu
posté November 13, 2011, 15:14:03 | #1
Map design in Wakfu Does anyone else feel that the environments (especially in the newer areas) in the game seem really thrown together and unpolished. Compared to Ankama's last MMO Dofus the zones seem to have far less character and a lot of the terrain cubes that make up the world are just reused across every area.
When I heard that they were introducing Brakmar to be an island I was extremely excited but when I actually explored it I found the same texture blocks and NPC models sprayed with a coat of red.

Another thing that bothers me is the structure of the islands. Now while I can see the direction they are trying to take in separating the islands (due to the Ogrest story ect) but the actual islands themselves feel unnatural, I mean I haven't seen any two areas connected together unless it's via a bridge. While this makes sense in terms of character level progression -- aesthetically it looks horrible.

Seems like I'm just bashing the game but I'd really like to get another peoples opinion on this and see if this is really just a personal issue or if anyone else feels the same way.

I agree with the islands thing. They could add more linking between the areas, and maybe even connecting nations by land (long distances though), it would make then the game more interesting and less fragmented. I know the reason of that is Ogrest's Chaos, but as we see in Wakfu Anime there are still a lot of land areas left :/

I do not know whether or not you played Dofus, some of you will not have played it at all. But, when I played Dofus (the released version, not the beta), there were patches applied periodically to the game. Sometimes a patch fixed something that a previous patch broke, and sometimes it added an area - expanding on the world of Dofus. Sometimes even the whole leveling system was changed. Point being, een after the release of Wakfu, we might have to expect that it will still be expanded upon through patches, and things might stil change.

If you were a developer, you'd listen to what the players' experience is like. If you were a developer, you would also - within the developers' team - discuss new concepts and ideas to make the game still fun for those who have played it for months and months by adding new things (dungeons, whole areas, new monsters, new achievements, new items, new abilities..).

amirite?
