Gemlin - Improvement Hello all. There I am again with some random idea I had.

On Dofus we had pets, we could choose whatever pet we wanted and there we are a bit forced to live with a jelly monster until the end of our virtual lives!

When you start playing Wakfu you will see a cat trying to catch that little slime. As you certainly have a hero spirit, you decide to kill it and protect the jelly. As reward, that monster will follow and guide you through the World of Twelve.

- Suggestion:

The meeting

Gemlins are forgotten souls that roam around the spiritual World of Incarnam. They are only available in Incarnam and only one will follow you as a master, however, outside Incarnam they don't exist! Since they're souls, they are forced to turn into shiny eggs when you travel to the world of twelve.

The new life

Once outside incarnam, Gemlins will turn into eggs and stay inside inventory. The time needed to hatch the egg depends on your influence in the world of twelve. You need to fill it's Wakfu or Stasis bar and get to level 5 in order to hatch it. You fill it's Wakfu or Stasis bar by doing actions such as planting, killing monster, cutting trees.

Once the egg hatches a creature will follow you and evolve with you during your gaming life. All of it's bonus will be based on your playing style, including it's form. The creature you will firstly meet is a small and cute hairball. You can name it whatever you want, but it can't be changed later on!

Evolving

The evolution tree of Gemlin is based on your actions. Not only on Wakfu and Stasis, but also on the type of monsters you kill, on the type of build you choose and also on the level of your professions.

Gemlins get a level when your character levels. Everytime it levels a window will be shown and you will have a collection of characteristics that can be chosen to enhance your pet ability, you can only choose one at time, and the possibilities are all based on your behavior and since it is only acquired at level five, you will start the customization at level five only. I will show you an example.

Characteristics:

Elemental Balance: 60% fire, 40% air:
Based on elemental evolution. If you have 5 spell levels as a total and 3 out of those 5 levels are distributed on Fire Spells, the fire balance will be 60%.
- The elemental balance increases the bonuses of a monster.

Wakfu/Stasis Bar:
1% Wakfu, the influence of Wakfu/Stasis bar is mostly to decide if you are getting a wakfu like evolution or a stasis like evolution.

Profession Bonus:
they're gems that can be equipped when you reach a certain level of a certain profession. It works the same way as the actual gems present in the game, like Vitality Gem and Prospecting Gem.

Monster Count Effect: 3 feline points, 7 bird points.
Bow Meow: 3 (feline) -> +3 points
Red Piwi: 5 (bird) -> +3 points
Gogoo: 1 (bird) -> +2 points
Note: the points given will depend on the monster killed. This is to prevent higher level people from farming certain monster species in order to get a specific bonus.

- Character levels from 5 to 6, window is shown:

- Congratulations Gemlin is now level 6! Distribute your points!

Options:

- Skin - Wings - Eye - Paws/Claws - Tail - Size - ( you need to choose one )

Then (if you choose Skin):

- Fiery Fur Level 1: +1% fire damage: 4 mammal points.
- Fiery Feathers Level 1: +1% fire resistance: 4 bird points.
- Scalded Skin Level 1: +1% fire resistance: 4 insect points.
- Fiery Scales Level 1: +1% fire resistance: 4 reptile points.
- Flame Skin Level 1: +1% fire damage: 4 amphibian points.
- Purplish Skin 1: +1% air damage: 4 insect points.
- Light Skin Level 1: +1% air resistance: 4 amphibian points.
- Greenish Skin: +1% air damage: 4 insect points.
- Purple Feathers: +1% air damage: 4 bird points.
- Red Pointed Skin: +1% fire resistance: 4 insect points.

Note: 4 out of 10 are air based stats (40% of their stats, the same as your elemental balance).

That's just an example. Everytime you level will will be able to level only 1 ability shown. The maximum quantity of levels per level is 3. The monster count will be reset every time you level.

At higher levels you will be able to have a ferocious friend that may help you with your life in the world of twelve. If you get to level 50 Farmer, you will earn a Farmer Gem. This gem will give the ability to help you with farming, your friend will gather the same thing your character gathers with a penalty of +50% speed, at level 100 the penalty goes to 0% (same speed as the character).
That is just a simple example, I'm sure it can be expanded much more and give the players the chance to have their own pet. This idea was inspired by a game I really love, SPORE.

Thanks guys, I don't have more time to type now, may write something more later on and sorry about my english, I'm not fluent

While I haven't read all the OP, I love the general idea. Current gremlin is just an extremely annoying info messages dispenser/minute buff holder.

The worst part about Gemlin is that it won't shut up even if being packed up >< .

Regarding changing it's evolvement - you get skins for a change of a it's look and seeds for different buffs as you unlock them. It also changes a color as you become more tuned to wakfu or stasis.

I like the overall idea, but personally, I think basing a bonus off monsters you kill is a bad idea. While leveling, I would rather kill whatever I want caring only about fun/XP (I will not kill monsters I find annoying, for example, or just won't bother with some).

A system that counts the monsters you kill would force players to kill specific monsters they wouldn't normally kill to go for a certain "perfect build" for them.

Kind of wish gemlin were a little less "accessory"
I think ankama should just provide gemlin gemss like the stats of pets in dofus:
Such as +10% Air Damage Gem, +50 Initiative Gem, and of course the SUPER valuable +1AP Gem.
All from doing big quests

This isn't dofus...your making Wakfu just like Dofus, the game sometimes can get boring... Amakna aretrying their best so that Dofus and Wakfu to be different and a little the same^^

Without any sign of Pets ever coming, and I dont understand how we would ride a Dracoturkey with the gemlin following... We need better stats then +10HP

I still would prefer the pet system similar to Dofus instead of this actual Gemlin thing. Ankama made Wakfu too achievement dependent, I still miss the quantity of NPCs we had in Dofus or we have in any other game, and also the quests. I don't think they'd destroy the purpose of achievements since both are optional.

For example, a brief idea from a possible pet system:

Pets are tamable monsters that are often found as quest rewards or just drops. They will stay beside you doesn't matter where you are or what are you fighting, they're real friends. However, they may get tired so you need to leave them inside your haven bag for a while to rest. They hate to be packed up inside your bags, their bonuses may go down if you do that. Leave them freed on your haven bag!

Each pet would have a specific diet that can range from 1 to more than 1 item. They will give you bonuses if you treat them well or even give a special spell that can be cast inside the fights. They have a Health bar that will go down if you fight too much, you need to take medicine and feed it in order to recover it's health. The essential profession to have a pet is the Trapper, since most of the collected resources can be eaten by a certain species. The trapper also crafts the medicine needed to cure a sickness or to recover some health points.

Examples of pets:

Boo - Gets from a Quest Reward
Bonuses: +1% earth damage per level of pet. It has 20 levels.
Food: mud pudding (cook)
Spells enabled at level 30: Stain (takes AP and does earth damage, costs WP and AP, weaker than real monster spell)

White Tofu - Rare drop
Bonuses: +1% air damage per level of pet. It has 30 levels.
Food: wheat vitamin (trapper)
Spells enabled at level 30: none

Stronger pets

Baby Drheller: class = enutrof.
Food: ores
Spells enabled at 30: none
Bonuses: +1 prospecting per level. It has 50 levels.
Ability enabled at level 50: Prospective Aura - Activates when the Enutrof kills a monster. Gives +5% prospecting for the fight.

Bwak
Food: seeds (farmer)
Bonuses: +1% damage every 2 levels. It has 50 levels.
Ability enabled at level 50: Pecking - low AP spell that deals random elemental damage.

Just random examples :~
