And it's just the sound of crickets anywhere else? Sounds like fun

What did I miss?

Someone doens't like someone else in Dofus\Wakfu. It's pretty unprecedented

Used to be that you could make a new character... and the areas at the very start would always be populated due to new players or people just making new characters. Really made the game feel alive. Of course, this was waaay back in beta.

Without that same feeling of life in all areas of the game, I couldn't see wanting to start up again.

I think I lost my old Dofus account.....

Was part of the great Dofus era of Enis, when +dmg affected our heals... and we just spammed leak pie all day long. I had one of the first enis to embrace the brokenness that was the royal gob sword.

Rushu was ruled by a sram named SOVIET... and harassed by a feca named PKU.

Those were the days...

I check in on this game every now and then to see if it has a decent population... because that's what it needs more than anything. It's not fun if it feels empty. I like feeling like I'm playing a popular game.

Back in beta (during certain time periods), you could create a new character and find a LOT of people also leveling new characters in the starting areas. When you create a new character and there's only 1-2 people in those starting areas, it's kinda depressing.

There are several reasons I haven't stuck with this game other than population...

1. Classes & skills
I've never been a HUGE fan of the skill system in this game. I preferred the "carrot on a stick" approach to Dofus where I had new skills to look forward to at certain milestone levels. Game me more of a reason to grind. In Wakfu, skills are all available very early so there's not as much to look forward to. Since that's unlikely to change... there are people that won't play just because of that. Unfortunate but if you overlook this...

Some of the classes just feel so much better than others. Class balance will always be an issue, but I remember liking MOST of the classes in Dofus. In Wakfu... I've only enjoyed a few.

2. Content
I found the content in Dofus to be more interesting than what's in Wakfu. The dungeons were more complex. They were more difficult. They required teamwork. Each level felt unique. In wakfu... it just feels like generic battle after generic battle and they are over very quickly. The dungeons were interesting enough in Dofus that you would look forward to leveling up high enough to participate in them.

Bosses in Dofus were very memorable, as were their rewards. The labyrinth to fight Dark Vlad comes to mind. Moon island. Cawwot island -> dungeon. Etc etc.

I haven't played Wakfu in a long while, but the dungeons were pretty boring and there weren't really any interesting boss fights to look forward to.

So while you might say that the end-game in all MMOs are the same.... the game should have a lot of interesting things to do along the way before you get there. I don't think that's the case for Wakfu but when it is... I'll definitely be back to try it out.

I think what a lot of people are complaining about is that there just isn't a lot of fun content in Wakfu. If it's anything like the beta (right up until the end), I understand exactly why people would get bored and the game would get stagnant.

Dofus had a lot of interesting dungeons and whatnot that actually made you want to level up. It was always fun to try and fight world bosses for dofusus. Guild battles were great because of perks. Also, the game had PvP conquest areas and whatnot. It was just so full of content.

Wakfu doesn't feel like a complete game yet. Still feels like a beta to me.

Well... Dofus had dungeons like this. Granted, once you figured out the trick to beating a lot of rooms\bosses, it became kinda repetitive. But still, it's miles ahead of Wakfu's dungeons. Not to mention the fact that a lot of Dofus dungeons were tucked in areas that required a lengthy and dangerous journey to get to... which just added to the fun.

I wouldn't make any guesses as to the final state of the nations/economy/ecology until release. Personally, I've been planning on playing Bonta, but until we get a release date and an all clear that there won't be any more wipes, I haven't been logging in.
There should be a wipe, because there should be some major changes to beta before the game is released. Dont be a baby. I've been in this beta for what... 4 years now? I've been to the max level 4 times. Wipes happen in betas.

Only reason I'm not playing now is because this seems to be one of the worst versions I've seen in my 4 years of playing Wakfu....

At any rate, if this game wasn't such a grindfest this wouldn't be a problem.

I fail to see what your comment has to do with this thread.

He's talking about how the beta is too buggy to be launched and how long it takes to patch in fixes.

That has nothing to do with how "grindy" the game is. Bugs\balance are problems for all kinds of games, not just "grindfests."

Old system was set up in such a way that you could actually spend all game fighting monsters that gave you bad spell exp. By that, I mean you could have the following scenario

Player 1, level 60, spell levels 5, 5, 20, 25, 10
Player 2, level 60, max spell level 20, 30, 30, 20, 20

That's just an example and didn't reflect actual numbers... just trying to paint a picture here.

If you spend all game soloing monsters above your level, you would get "good" spell exp, as higher level mobs gave more spell exp. Makes sense... but you could ALSO level up fighting groups of lower level enemies that added up to your level (example... you're 60, so you fight a group of 4x level 15 mobs). That exp would be enough to level off of, but the spell exp would be atrocious... as it did NOT scale.

What takewithfood said is right. They are never going to find a spell exp system that feels right. I'd love to go back to a point system... but seeing as Wakfu is all about trying to be as non-traditional as possible, I don't see that happening.

I saw the stall in Kelba a week or so ago... and I laughed at the prices. It was like 7 kamas for 50-60 HP bread. WTF?

I think Cassidy was trying to sell to the rich players with 10,000 kamas. For someone who has, on average, 400-500 kamas, paying 7 kamas for 1 peice of bread is a joke.

Would I rather sit and heal 50 HP, or spend 7 kamas? Well the answer to that should be pretty clear. Takes a lot of time to mine all the ore to craft my kamas, and I'd rather put those kamas toward gear and zaaps.

I would expect to pay 4-5 kamas for a STACK of 10 bead that heals around 70 HP each.

I know bread isn't a great profession to make money off of... the problem is, they made it too hard in this version of the beta. Back in Beta version 2, I had baking maxed out. I could make EVERYTHING. It wasn't that hard. If I was missing mats, I could walk around for 10 minutes and BUY everything I needed for really cheap because there was just that many people playing. AND I could sell bread for a profit... because the recipes weren't bat*** crazy. We need baking to be a little easier so MORE people will do it and there will be a competitive market for bread.

Well in my opinion, the "fun stuff" in dofus is really lacking in Wakfu thus far. I'm worried that the current dungeons represent what will be in the full, retail version. Really boring compared to Dofus dungeons. Also, Dofus had epic, difficult journeys leading UP to the dungeons\bosses (Wabbit Island, Labyrinth, Moon) for example). Wakfu has nothing like The Labyrinth. Visiting areas like that for the first time was some of the most fun I've had in an MMO.

Right now Wakfu feels like a watered down version of what it really could be... but I just feel like they're pushing the sandbox aspect of it a little too far. It will appeal to the players that can get by on Nation\government drama alone, but I need something more to work towards. Something "fun" that I need to level up in order to experience (not just gear).

I'm really afraid to log in and look at how much my gear sucks now. I know I'll just be pissed off. I'm so glad battlefield 3 was released right before ANOTHER wakfu patch came out that makes me never want to touch the game again.

Ankama really doesn't want me to like this game.

It IS actually possible to predict which targets will be chosen. The game gives priority to certain directions. Back during phase 2 of the beta, I believe a few really brilliant people worked out said priority order... but I forget it.

I should take the time to figure it out. It would help me a lot.
